I love the idea of having a home filled with beautiful handcrafted furnishings and decor.  My personal taste is all over the place, so I imagine that someday I’ll have a rather ecclectic collection of artwork and furniture.  This particular collection encompasses so many styles and features that I love – the modern lines and warm glow of Seth Rolland’s table and Jean Pelle’s candle holders; the clean, geometric shapes of  Lunar Lounge’s love seat and JWLeGrand’s concrete sink; the vintage (but not overly girly or frilly) look of the letter plaques from Beachchik, a fellow EtsyNJ member; Etceteramedia’s use of sturdy, industrial felt in their pillows; and the innovative designs of Siriusfnord’s glass bowls and Art Is 3 Letter’s Map on a Stick series.

I do hope you will check out the shops and websites of these talented artists!

Recycled Sterling Silver Discs

Recycled Sterling Silver Discs

I’m not really into New Year’s resolutions, but this year I did decide to make a greater commitment to using eco-friendly material in my jewelry.  To this end, I’ve started buying most of my sterling silver from Hoover & Strong, a company that has been providing eco-friendly, recycled precious metals to jewelers for decades.  While I do still have a lot of material from other suppliers on hand, I will be restocking these with their more environmentally-friendly counterparts as they run out.  I am already using the recycled silver in many of my pieces, including my Constellation Earrings, Galaxy Ring, Skyline Earrings, and several other items.  I’m happy with how the silver looks, and I feel good about using something that is a little less harmful to the planet.

In other news, I’ve finally gotten around to updating my shop at Big Cartel.  I like the different formatting options there, as well as the reasonable monthly fee.  Click HERE to take a look at the whole shop!

2009 got off to a good start with a trip to a taping of the Martha Stewart Show on January 6th! I met up with some members of the EtsyNJ Street Team at a Starbucks in Manhattan, and we trundled off through the cold to the Chelsea Studios and waited to get inside for the morning taping. The show was terrific (you can see almost the whole episode here), and meeting other team members for the first time was great fun!

The Mario Badescu products in this photo are just some of the free goodies everyone in the audience received. The bath gels are my favorite, but as someone whose hands are ravaged by work and weather, the handcream is perfect for me!

Happy 2009!!

Happy New Year!  The last few months of 2008 felt like a terrific success to me, so to celebrate, and to kick off the new year in style, I’m having another sale!  Yep, selected items in my shop will be 20% off through midnight tonight.  Click HERE to see what’s in the shop.

2009 will bring some changes to my shop, including new materials and new techniques, but I’ll get to those later in the week.  I also promise to post photos from recent holiday festivities with my friends and family to my Flickr page.  For now, though, I think it’s time to curl up on the couch with some hot coffee and watch the rest of the Rose Parade.

I wasn’t waiting for the treasury on Etsy to open up or anything, but earlier today, someone posted an announcement on Twitter that it was opening up soon.   I decided to try and snag one, but I apparently missed it by just a minute or two.

Well, fine.  I’ll put together my own collection of favorites!  I’m in a vintagey-steampunky-military-ish mood, and these items have all caught my eye in the last day or two (actually, I’ve been coveting a couple of them for a while now).  They are full of wonderful details and embellishments, from antique lace appliques and faux fur hems to metallic thread stitching and exposed seams.  With innovative construction and interesting lines, each of these handcrafted beauties would be a terrific addition to a seriously cool wardrobe.

*** Shop News ***

The last day to order for the holidays from my Etsy shop will be December 20th!  You’ll still be able to order after that, of course, but I might not be able to get your purchase out to you before I leave for Kansas on the 23rd.   Feel free to send me a message if you have any questions or concerns about your order!

Happy shopping!

What do I do with all of these? I know I can send my silver back to the supplier for credit, but what about base metal?  It’s times like these when I wish I had a rolling mill so I could melt this down and roll out new sheets.  (Do you think anyone has ever asked for a rolling mill for christmas?)

*** Holiday Shipping Announcement ***

I recommend ordering holiday purchases by December 17th for domestic destinations. International orders vary in shipping times, so the earlier, the better! I’ll be making every attempt to get orders out the door as soon as possible after receiving them until I head out to Kansas on the 23rd.

Take a look at my updated Ready to Ship section for gift ideas that will be shipped in 1 to 2 business days!

*** Shop News: One day left in the Holiday Sale!! The sale runs through the end of Cyber Monday. ***

I had tons of packing paper that I received with my Rio Grande orders just sitting around, so I decided to cart it off somewhere and shred a bunch of it (I need my own shredder). It is working nicely as filler and cushioning for my packages these days, and I’m using as much recycled and repurposed material as possible in general for packing. I always enjoyed wrapping presents during the holidays and was often conscripted by my family members to do their gifts for them. Needless to say, I’m having a lot of fun with my more elaborate packaging set-up now.
