Jewelers and metalsmiths, admit it – you’ve drooled over these books! I discovered this series in my jewelry class at the 92nd Street Y and went right out and bought the lot of them. FYI, they’re much cheaper on Amazon than they are at the Marketfair Barnes & Noble. They are great sources of inspiration and, along with my class itself, have forced me to think a bit about the direction my work should be going in. It is definitely time to start getting some advanced training, refining my style, and developing a cohesive body of work.

Levi and I will be leaving New Jersey toward the end of the summer (this I have some mixed feelings about), and I will no longer have access to all the resources of NYC (this, I’m NOT happy about at all!). We’re headed to South Carolina, so I’ve spent a bit of time looking around for schools and other institutions in the area that offer training in metals and jewelry. Oddly enough, the Carolinas seem to be full of crafty types, and there are a number of respectable schools within a few hours drive of where I’ll be living. One in particular is the Penland School of Crafts, which offers eight-week workshops in a number of fields. Haywood Community College of Professional Crafts is another nearby option. So I have some decisions to make and some money to save up, but these are very exciting possibilities.

Geode Earrings, originally uploaded by antigenre.

Nu metal?  Not really, but a new shop devoted exclusively on my metalwork. I’m happy to announce that MetaGenre is now up and running! Recently, I’ve been taking a metalsmithing course at the 92nd Street Y in Manhattan and have been learning and developing new skills and techniques. I wanted to create a space where I could showcase these and focus on new directions in my work.

AntiGenre, of course, will still be around and will be the home of my mixed-metal pieces, along with my vintage bead and freshwater pearl items. New pieces are being added to both shops on a regular basis.

In other news, I will be at Communiversity in Princeton on April 25th, and at Art Star Craft Bazaar in Philadelphia on May 30th and 31st. Please come and say hello!

Galaxy Ring, originally uploaded by antigenre.

I had a pair of my Buckshot earrings that never sold sitting around in my inventory drawer for a long time. I decided to dismantle them and try something different, and this ring is the result! To me, it’s sort of a mod-yet-industrial cocktail ring of sorts. I have a brass prototype to keep for myself, but I think I want one in this (rather striking, if I may say so myself!!) blackened sterling silver. It’s currently available in my Etsy shop in sizes 7 and 8.

Shop Update:

In preparation for holiday shopping, I’ve decided to add a ‘Ready to Ship’ section to my shop.  Any items that are already made and ready to go out the door will be listed here, so be sure to check there if you are getting started on your holiday shopping!  I’ll add more pieces as I get them made.

sale5nov08

It’s getting close midnight, which means it’s almost time for my birthday sale to start!  Actually, the sale is turning into a general celebration sale to mark not only my birthday, but the incredible new political direction that the United States is taking.  The historic election that took place yesterday is a terrific occassion to add to the list of things to celebrate!

At 12:00am on November 6th, a whole bunch of the best-sellers in my Etsy shop go on sale at 20% off their regular price.  I have several of each item in stock, so they’ll be ready to ship as soon as they’re sold.  Quantities are limited, though.  Once they’re gone, they’re gone, and items will be back in the shop at regular price on the 7th.

Happy Shopping!

Not anymore!  In the interesting in generating as much of a web presence as possible, I decided to open a shop on Big Cartel.  And while I’m still in the process of getting it set up and working on the design, I thought I’d give it a bit of a mini-debut.  Prices and shipping costs are identical to those in my Etsy shop, and it’s just one more place to find AntiGenre jewelry on the web!

Supplies., originally uploaded by antigenre.

All over the news today – on Meet the Press, Hardball, everywhere – people are saying there are only nine days left. Just nine days! I think they counted incorrectly, though, because my birthday is in eleven days, on the 6th of November.

Funnily enough, the 6th is the same day as my Birthday Sale! I’m getting to work on a bunch of the best sellers in my Etsy shop, and will have multiples of many of them available. The sale will run from 12:00am to midnight on the 6th, and when the sale is over, eveything will be back in the shop at its regular price. So tell your friends, stop by and do some shopping!

Riveting…, originally uploaded by antigenre.

I doubt that this was what Sarah Palin had in mind, but hey, it works for me. I went to town with my Foredom a while ago and created a pendant that was originally supposed to be part of my Buckshot series. I love the decayed, broken-down look of all these holes. I never did much with the pendant, so I decided to add to it, make use of some leftover brass tubing, and play around with some rivets. I plan to make some more pieces like this and should have the results posted in my shop soon.
